Under 12 Girls and Mens All Age Sunday As in the Grand Final this weekend.
Post date: Aug 23, 2016 11:40:15 AM
Two of our teams have progressed to the Grand Final this weekend after dramatic semi final wins last Sunday.
Our Under12 Girls were playing in the preliminary final after losing the week before in the major semi final to Leichhardt Saints 1-0. The Titans were Minor Premiers by a whopping 14 points over nearest rivals Leichhardt but after the defeat in the first semi final were now facing elimination against a resilient Enfield Rovers outfit. It was a very tight affair which couldn't be separated after normal time nor after extra time so penalties were needed to determine the winner. Cooks River prevailed 5-4 on penalties to once again face Leichhardt Saints this time in the Grand Final this Sunday at Campbell Park in Chiswick at 9am.
Last year's champions, the All Age Sunday As, were cruising during the season and looking like finishing minor premiers but in recent weeks have been rocked by an injury crisis which affected their results and dropped down to third at the conclusion of the regular competition. They entered the semi final series without a regular goal keeper as their main keeper and the two players who can back up as keepers were all out injured. They managed to scrape 11 players together to play against arch rivals Inter Lions in a knock out semi final. The Titans raced to a 2-0 lead but Inter clawed their way back into the game to make it a tense encounter. Cooks River managed to control their nerves and hold on to a 3-2 win which now sees them play against Minor Premiers Enfield Rovers in the Grand Final on Sunday at Campbell Park in Chiswick at 2.30pm.
We would like to wish our teams in the Grand Final this Sunday all the very best of luck and lease head down to give them the support they deserve.
