Our Under12 Division 3 Girls team was only assembled this year from a handful of girls who played in the U10s and then the Under11s Mixed team the past two years. The rest of the team was made up of friends and other girls who were merely looking for a team to play in, some of which had never played before. In fact, the team only had one friendly game together back in March but the signs were there as they won 1-0 with only 8 players against a team which had 11 on the park and 4 substitutes. In the end, the girls played a total of 13 games to record 12 wins and one draw. They did not lose a single game. They scored a total of 88 goals and conceded just 3. Simply incredible statistics. In a shortened season with no finals series, the Titans girls won the competition with two games to spare. A truly amazing achievement for coach, George Madouris and the group of 14 girls most of which are not yet 12 years of age.
Our Under12 Division 5 boys team was a team that coach David Kavanagh had coached the past 3 seasons. He lost some good players last season when his Under 10s team was split into two Under 11s teams, however his dedication to coaching exemplified by his completion of all the available CDSFA coaching courses, started to reap rewards. The Titans were picking up good results and were sitting solidly in second spot but were at one stage 8 points behind 1st placed Abbotsford. A few indifferent results from Abbotsford opened the door for the Titans who were on a winning streak. Abbotsford held the lead all season until last weekend of the season where both teams were then level on points but the Titans held the advantage on goal difference. It was truly a Grand Final on the last day of the season. Their only previous meeting ended in a draw. A draw was all that was needed by Cooks River last Sunday but coach Kavanagh stated his team will be going out for the win and that they did. They got off to a flying start and stunned Abbotsford with their intensity and determination. It was so overwhelming that they went into half time leading 4-0. Abbotsford tried to fire back in the second half and managed a goal but when the Titans scored again it sealed the victory and the championship for 2020.
The All Age Division 8 men for the most part have been with the club since it’s inception six years ago. Player-Coach Lee Stebbing assembled the team in 2015 and has continually developed the squad so much so that in 2017 they won the Division 9 championship. In 2018 they were promoted to Division 8 and went back to back in winning the grand final. Last season they were promoted again into Division 7 where they were unlucky to lose in the preliminary final. This season they were initially in Division 7 but when leagues were cut down to 8 teams per division they were shuffled down to Division 8. Stebbing again added to the team at the start of the season and it proved instrumental as they took the competition by storm winning 12 games, drawing one and losing just one, scoring 53 and conceding just 9. This is the team’s 3rd championship in the last 4 years.
The final team which won the 2020 competition were the All Age Division 11 men. A handful of players were remnants of the 2017 All Age 13 Division championship winning team which also made the 2018 grand final in the All Age 12s. Last season they were promoted to Division 9/10 but ended up losing the Division 10 grand final. This season, there were initially in Division 10 but again with the reshuffling of divisions they were dropped to Division 11. Coach Phillip Fourlas was devastated last season so made some very important additions across all areas from the goalkeeper to the front line. The team ended up with 12 wins, 2 draws and no losses, scoring an incredible 69 goals while conceding 15.
