UNDER 13/1 GIRLS THROUGH TO GRAND FINAL

posted Jul 30, 2017, 3:23 AM by CooksRiver Titans
Our Under13 Division 1 Girls have qualified for the Grand Final after winning their major semi final this morning.

The match kicked off at 9am at Pratten Park against Enfield Rovers. Both previous matches with Enfield were very close and tense affairs with each team winning one game apiece. Today was no different.

The game started very tentatively with both sides unable to assert themselves on the match. Chances were rare as both teams knew exactly what was on the line. Neither team was able to create any clear cut opportunity and the scoreboard remained unchanged at half time.

In the second half, Cooks River began with more vigour after the half time chat from coach Nicholas Boscov yet Enfield was a very tough nut to crack. The Titans probably shaded the game in terms of chances but as the game wore on, it seemed that whoever managed to break the deadlock would go onto to win the match. That opportunity fell to the Titans who with only several minutes to play were awarded a penalty for handball in the box. The penalty kick was duly dispatched and Cooks River took a 1-0 lead. It was no a matter of not making any silly errors in defence but if you thought the Titans would sit back and defend you would be wrong. They pushed forward and with just 30 seconds to play managed to double their lead and secure the win.

Cooks River have booked their place in the Grand Final to be played on August 13th at a time and venue yet to be determined. They will play the winner between Enfield and either Burwood or Leichhardt Saints.

In our the other semi final match involving Cooks River today, our All Age Sunday men were extremely unlucky to go down 3-2 to Leichhardt in Golden Goal with just over a minutes left. This means they have been eliminated from the semi finals and are not able to complete a hattrick of Grand Final wins. They will rue a raft of missed opportunities from today's game as they were clearly the better side. Nonetheless they had a great season but will feel a sense of disappointment for not realising their true potential.
